I stayed in Meiningen with my old friend Sophia. She was an exchange student at my high school. I was so nice to see a familiar face! =) We couldn’t believe that five years have already passed since we saw each other!
Sophia and her parents picked me up at the train station in the afternoon on Saturday (April 7th) and went to their house. Sophia was home on her spring break. We had tea and cakes to classical music! I was so fancy! =P We caught up on things and Sophia played translator because her parents didn’t speak/understand much English. At night we went to a cocktail bar/restaurant place to meet one of Sophia’s friends.
On Easter Sunday, we after breakfast, Sophia’s papa did an ‘egg hunt’ for me, Sophia, and her mama. I put that in quotes because we didn’t hunt eggs, just random treats. I got a chocolate bunny and some other chocolates! Sophia made some delicious risotto for lunch! Afterward, her papa took us to the largest ski resort in Germany that was near their house. I found it more entertaining than Sophia and her mama! ;) It was cool to see the bob sled track and how steep the ski jump really is, but it was so damn cold out! Also got to see the indoor skiing area! Sunday night we went out to Sophia’s favorite restaurant/bar in Meiningen to meet another one of her friends. Once we got back, the two of us skyped with my family at night! Everyone was so excited to see her =)
On Monday, April 9th, we all had breakfast together. I could usually deduce (not understand!) what they were talking about in German, but not once they got into a debate about local German politics! It was interesting to say the least! For lunch, we ate at a castle- no big deal. It was the Schloss Landsberg Castle, I’m not sure of the English translation. The castle was only built to be used for gatherings not to live in. Therefore, I dubbed it a ‘party castle’! At lunch, I had a traditional Rothenburg meal- don’t know the German name for it, but it was meat with these delicious and hard to make potatoes! So yummy! After lunch they showed me around Meiningen! =) My last night we stayed in and shared pictures. Also watched a video of pictures from Sophia’s time in America!
Tuesday morning, Sophia’s dad (of whom is a dentist) took out my stitches for me! It feels good to have them out and have that ugly bandage off my face! Then Sophia and I got some delicious iced coffees before her and her mama took me to catch my train!
Unfortunately I was still unable to find a battery charger, so I didn’t get any pictures =( But Sophia’s house was so beautiful, even had my own room!
So nice that you got to spend time with Sophia! Sounds like they took very good care of my B baby! Bailey wanted me to read her the part about the Dentist taking out your stitches, she said she felt better after she had her stitches out too...even though the puppy dr did it.
